This vacation was her idea, so she really should be enjoying it, shouldn't she?

They'd both needed to get away, and it was the Fourth of July, so she thought why not? Let's go to Miami and hide out while Michael does...whatever he does...over in Coral Gables for the day. He knew a guy who knew a guy who was willing to let the two of them lie next to "the largest freshwater pool in Miami" for the price of a few tropical drinks. She should be having the time of her life while she avoids burning to death under the summer sun.

But it's nagging and clawing at her, and damn it, she needs to address it for once and for all.

Obviously, the best way to do this would be to shake him awake from of one of his burger-and-beer comas.

Sam's pretty much dead to the world right now, and wakes up slowly at her prodding.

"Hmm.. what?"

He's ALWAYS dead to the world at this time of the day, unless there's something vitally important going on. Well, to Clem this fits the bill.

"Get up, I want to talk."

She gives him a nudge, careful to mind her own full belly and booze-dizzied head.

He scootches over on the lounge chair to get closer to her, sensing her nervousness to a certain degree.

"What's up, babe?"

Clementine responds by leaning into his side. Because his presence is pretty comforting. "Uh...have you talked to Mike lately?"

She knows it's better to feel him out before dropping a bomb on him.

He's getting a bit worried now. Usually Clem's anything but shy when it comes to speaking her mind.

"Um, no... why?

Oh God, his eyes are darting everywhere. That means he thinks HE did something wrong.

"Good. At least he can keep a secret." She shrugs. "I may be in some trouble. Let's not talk about it."

Sure, that's how these things work don't they?

"Woaaaah woah woah, back up. In trouble how?"

If she really doesn't want to talk about it he won't push, but he needs a LITTLE more information here.

She grumbles. "all right." Then Clem reaches over his prone body, grabs the bottle of beer they'd been in the middle of splitting, and sips it. Finishing, she says, "Garcia and Jones may have beaten a guy to death and we're all going up the river for covering it up. Happy Fourth of July, my life sucks."

She's been told that they actually weren't at fault, but she doesn't dare believe the two of them at this point.

He's distracted by the rather nice view of her chest, but it does eventually sink in.

"...You wanna run that by me one more time?"

See, now she's going to just tug at a lock of his chest hair. Because REALLY, Sam.

"Do you know what they do to women like me in prison?"

"You mean cops or babes?"

He wraps an arm around her waist, trying, in his own awkward way, to be comforting.

"How long?"

"Aww." But even as she softens up she tries to be firm with him. "How long do accessories to murder go to jail for?" This isn't going to be pretty. "Michael said he'd try to help me."

"I don't know, it's not something I've got a lot of experience with."

That sounds like Mike, though. They may drive him crazy sometimes but he's not one to let a friend down if there's anything he can do.

"Help as in legal help, or help as in the 'smuggle you across the border' variety?"

Knowing Mike, it could be either.

Then she gives him a poke in the ribs. "You don't need to remind me you're so...you." She shrugs. "He said something about doctoring footage."

He raises an eyebrow. "Just how me am I being?"

He gives her another quick hug. "We'll figure something out."

"Mr. boyscout at work," she replied. Clem buries her face in his chest and sighs. "You're not pissed off that I'm not doing my coply duty?"

He chuckles at her first comment, sighing as she clings to him.

"Can't undo what's already done. If it turns out we can't get you off the hook, we'll deal with it."

What that dealing might entail, he doesn't even know yet.

Ooh, maybe he'll blow some shit up. Good, she won't need to flash her honkers at the attorney general then. "There isn't a lot TO do. They have footage, lots of it."

Blowing shit up is pretty much their usual M.O. He hugs her a bit tighter.

"Footage can be altered. Mike knows people."

Still, some cleavage might not hurt...

"Does he know a magician?" She mumbles that into his shoulder. No, it's likely Sam's the one who knows a magician. She almost doesn't want to know at this point.

As if she disapproves!

"Well there was that one time..."

(He's...mostly kidding.)

"Hey...you know I'll be here for you."

"That's not funny." She'll just lean into him heavily now, elbowing him. "I don't want to go to the joint, Sam. Cops usually leave prison in bodybags."

She plays with the ring on her left hand. "What if I go away for more than a year? What if it's five?"

Ow. She wields a mean elbow.

"However long it takes."

He's not sure what to say about her other fear.

"I'm not that special," she mumbles. All she knows is that she wasn't meant for jail.

"Hey." He gently tilts her head up so he can look her in the eyes.

"You are all kinds of special, babydoll."

"Mph," she mutters, trying to shift about 'til she's comfortable in his lap. "Damn right I am." She does alternate moods, doesn't she?

She does, but he rather enjoys trying to keep up with her.

"That's what I like to hear."

He moves in for a kiss.

Oh yeah, he's gonna get kissed.

And clung to.

And possibly get his hair pulled a little.

Like he minds.

"Feel better?" he asks as they finally come up for air.

This is why she bangs him. He's a total sweetheart and a pro to boot, and a damn good kisser.

She leans into his chest. "I'd feel a lot better if you'd do that thing you do with your tongue."

They probably have to go somewhere more private for him to do that.

He grins.

"Not by the pool, though. I don't wanna get kicked out."

...Again.

Cue a whiny moan. "You're no fun." And her tugging upon his chest hair playfully. He's going to have to carry her away...because.

"Hey, I didn't say I wouldn't do it."

He scoops her up into his arms.

"Just not right here."

As fun as it is to walk on the wild side, she's already worried enough about legal matters.

"You wanna get out of here for a while?"

"Good. and I'm going to need a huge bottle of chardonnay, too."

The squawk he gets when she's picked up is an entirely pleased one. "If it involves the tongue thing? Hell yeah." Her arms go around his neck. She was burning, anyway.

He smirks, taking the opportunity to kiss her again.

"Can do, babydoll."

He's always been good at easing her mind. And her tensions.

She moans happily and lets him carry her away.
